2019 Competitions Sarawak Issue

March 19, 2019

It snowed heavily, but that did not stop some nine stalwart members trudging through the drifts to have a go for a trophy.

The Whitfield Bowl which is a one-sheet starter competition was won by Graham Woodhouse with Miss Bundelt Coutts and the Rajah with the runner up spot going to David Maddock with “A Very Strange Item”

The Farmer Trophy which is for nine sheets of Traditional Philately went to Tony Tinslay with French Morocco with John Holmes taking the run ner up spot with Australian Roos and GV heads.

The Society Trophy for which the entry has to be 16 sheets of Traditional, Thematic or Postal History went to Tony Tinslay with the British in Egypt followed up by Graham Woodhouse with the Development of the

The Czuczman Jug for 9 sheets of Postcards went to John Holmes with Australian Mammals backed up by Bob Murrell with Some Hampshire Churches

It is to be hoped that next year may bring better weather and a higher attendance. You have to attend if only to understand what the Whitfield Bowl entries were all about, and maybe get some entries in the Kiddle Cup, Vickery Cup and Morris Plate.

2018 Competitions

March 27, 2018

January 30th saw a quite reasonable turnout for the Competition Evening. It appeared that nobody in the Society was interested in Thematics or Postal History this year, but there was interest in the other sections.

The “starter” competition, the Whitfield Bowl, one sheet on any subject, was the most entered and was won by David Maddock with a sheet on the “First Helicopter Mail in Sweden”.

Percy Vickery

March 27, 2018

We are sad to record the passing of long-standing Honorary Member Percy Vickery on 11th. January 2018 at the age of 88.

Percy’s main philatelic interest was Hong Kong. He consistently confused his audience by starting at the lower right of the last frame claiming that this was the “Chinese Method”. In the Society he organised and ran the Annual Auction for many years, following which he started a professional monthly auction and printing business.

Apart from stamps he was very active in the Fleet and Crookham Local History Group and produced a book in 2003 with over 200 old postcards of bygone Fleet illustrating the physical development of the settlement, its industry, transport, works and events.

Our sympathies go to his family.

Society Auction 2017 (with a difference)

February 27, 2017

The annual Society auction will be taking place at the usual venue, Court Moor School, on Saturday 3rd. June.

One thing is not “as usual” however. A local thespian group had already booked every Saturday for the whole of the year. Fortunately they leave at 1.30pm so the auction will now open for viewing at 2pm with selling starting at 4pm. We have until 9pm to finish and clear up.

2016 Annual General Meeting Update

June 18, 2016

The May AGM started with a moments silence in memory of Francis Kiddle who had reigned as President for many years.

Bob Murrell took the chair and the evening proceeded rapidly through the usual plethora of official and unofficial items and reports. There was a lively series of exchanges regarding the objectives and financial viability of the Annual without agreeing any major changes.

Another successful summer auction

June 8, 2016

At first it looked as if the auction turnover would be well down as attendees in the room seemed to be less that previous years. However as the morning rolled on by kick-off we were up to the usual 35 or so attendees.

Of more importance they were prepared to unlock their wallets and at the end we had almost double the previous years turnover. With almost 100 postal bidders it appears at short notice that we will be well up to previous records.

Another Successful FHNPS Summer Auction

June 7, 2015

Thanks to everyone that participated in another successful and well-attended FNHPS summer Auction this year.  The auction is a well run and enjoyable event that sets a high standard for Fleet and North Hants Philatelic Society. It would not be successful without so many members contributing.
